REGIONA’LH2 project: liquid hydrogen for low-carbon aviation
On October 4, 2022, H2PULSE was present as a partner of the REGIONA’LH2 project alongside CMP Composites, ATELIERS BIGATA, RESCOLL and FACT at the 2nd edition of the “Mobilité Aérienne Légère Verte et Durable” (MAELE) organized in #Bordeaux. This day aimed to highlight the initiatives and projects of different companies pursuing the search for solutions for the air transport of tomorrow.
Among the many projects presented, the REGIONA’LH2 project, supported by the New Aquitaine Region and the Occitania Region, is part of the desire to decarbonize our future modes of transport through the use of a fuel that can be neutral in CO2 emissions.
REGIONA’LH2 aims to develop a liquid hydrogen storage system for light air mobility and to address the issues of liquid hydrogen/gas phase change, hydrogen extraction from the composite cryogenic tank, and hydrogen conditioning in order to power a fuel cell or a thermal engine while ensuring a drastically minimal leakage level. The interest of using liquid hydrogen, at a temperature of about -253°C, is to be able to carry a smaller mass of fuel than with compressed gaseous hydrogen on board the transport mode. To meet this challenge, H2PULSE is collaborating with several companies in the New Aquitaine region, including CMP Composites, RESCOLL, Ateliers Bigata and Fluid Actuation and Control Toulouse (FACT).
The work currently carried out by the consortium concerns the following developments: realization of an all-composite liquid hydrogen cryogenic tank, management and control of the liquid hydrogen phase change to gaseous hydrogen, design of an isolation and regulation valve for the hydrogen flow supporting cryogenic temperatures, realization of a test bench for hydrogen tanks and systems, as well as a mechanical test platform in cryogenic conditions.
We look forward to seeing you in Toulouse at the end of November for the next presentation of the project!
H2PULSE will be present at the two exhibitions that will be held at MEETT: MAELE exhibition on November 29 and 30, 2022 & AEROMART exhibition on November 30 and December 1, 2022.
